Calgary Will Join Millions Around the World in Fourth Global Climate Strike and in Solidarity With the Anti-Austerity Movement
At 10:30 AM students at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and various schools in the Calgary area will be walking out of classes to demand climate action from all levels of government. These students and other members of the public will then join Fridays For Future members in front of Calgary City Hall at 12:00 PM. From 12:00 to 12:30 PM, speakers will present and attendees will chant. At 12:30 PM Fridays For Future will march to McDougall Centre to join in solidarity with the Anti-Austerity protest “Hands off Our Education” with Students for Direct Action at 1:00 PM. The march will be joined by TRAction, who will offer a closing apocalyptic image based on present and future realities. At McDougall Centre, Fridays For Future and Extinction Rebellion will join Idle No More in a Round Dance to press the Alberta Government for climate action and climate justice.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has determined we must keep the rate of warming below 1.5 degrees. Roughly 11,000 scientists have urged the world to act during this climate emergency. We urge all levels of government to immediately implement policies that will ensure a transition to a sustainable economy and future to benefit everyone.
